First up, a glowing skin turmeric face mask!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cSecret Beauty Weapon\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I read recently that actress Thandie Newton called&nbsp;<strong>turmeric<\/strong>&nbsp;her \u201csecret beauty weapon.\u201d Isn\u2019t that just for curry? Nope! (Although it&nbsp;<em>is<\/em>&nbsp;fantastic and one of the most scientifically studied and proven natural ingredients for healing inflammation from the inside out\u2014here are some of our favorite&nbsp;anti-inflammatory turmeric recipes.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only does this spice have amazing&nbsp;healing properties, but it\u2019s also a&nbsp;great beauty product. It turns out Indian brides have long used turmeric as a head-to-toe body scrub and face mask to brighten skin before their weddings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is turmeric?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Though turmeric is found in many Southeast Asian dishes, naturopathic physician&nbsp;Dr. Trevor Gates&nbsp;says it\u2019s actually a long-standing South Indian spice that\u2019s been trusted for a multitude of uses. Not only is it a flavoring and coloring agent, but she says it\u2019s also a medicinal and beautifying herb. In fact, she notes it has been scientifically proven as an anti-inflammatory that soothes redness and itchiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTurmeric manages microorganism growth on the skin, helping ward off acne-causing acne bacteria, and it prevents other infections from spreading,\u201d Dr. Gates explains. \u201cIt also contains powerful antioxidant properties, balances sebum secretion, and helps clean out pores.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Turmeric beauty benefits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Turmeric is high in antioxidants that slow down cell damage.<\/li><li>It\u2019s widely used as a skin exfoliant and improves the texture of skin.<\/li><li>It helps with inflammatory skin conditions, such as&nbsp;acne, dry skin, psoriasis, and eczema.<\/li><li>It helps reduce pigmentation and even out the skin tone.<\/li><li>It is also said to diminish wrinkles.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6 DIY Turmeric Masks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Since turmeric offers internal and external benefits, there are plenty of ways to incorporate its healing properties into your beauty routine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Make your own glowing skin turmeric face mask<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>2 tablespoons of flour. You can use regular flour, rice flour, or ground oats if your skin is dry.<\/li><li>1 teaspoon&nbsp;turmeric<\/li><li>3 tablespoons milk. You can also use yogurt to fight acne.<\/li><li>A few drops of honey (any kind will work, but&nbsp;manuka&nbsp;is especially good for acne)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Mix flour, turmeric, honey, and milk to make a paste.<\/li><li>Apply a thin layer to your face and let it dry for 20 minutes.<\/li><li>Rinse off in the shower, scrubbing gently to remove.<\/li><li>Apply your favorite moisturizer.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Hydrating Turmeric Face Mask For Sensitive Skin<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For a&nbsp;hydrating face mask, combine the skin brightening and lightening benefits of turmeric and lemon. Turmeric Face Scrub<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Turmeric\u2019s texture provides excellent exfoliation, and it helps regulate skin\u2019s oil production, making it great for acne-prone skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1\/2 teaspoon ground turmeric<\/li><li>3 teaspoons almond milk<\/li><li>3 teaspoons baking soda<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl and stir to combine. Using clean hands, massage over clean, damp skin with fingertips starting with your chin and working upward in small circles. Rinse and follow with moisturizer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Tightening and Soothing Turmeric Face Mask<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Turmeric calms inflammation and irritation while skin-soothing ingredients like raw honey and coconut milk help tighten and brighten skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1 \u00bd teaspoons ground turmeric<\/li><li>1 teaspoon raw organic honey<\/li><li>1 tablespoon coconut milk<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Put turmeric, honey, and milk in a small bowl and stir. You want your mask to be a thin paste, so adjust the milk as necessary until you get the right consistency. Before applying, cleanse your face to remove dirt and makeup. Apply the mask evenly all over your face, making sure to focus on any inflamed areas. Leave the mask on for 20 minutes then rinse off with warm water. Repeat as necessary until the inflammation subsides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Turmeric-Chickpea Face Mask<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The three Cs in this mask \u2014 chickpeas, coconut, and cucumber \u2014 are all soothing and healing for our skin. When you add in turmeric, you\u2019ll also get its known anti-inflammatory and brightening benefits, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>2 tablespoons (or 15 grams) of chickpea flour<\/li><li>\u00bd teaspoon of organic unsweetened coconut milk<\/li><li>1 teaspoon of cucumber juice<\/li><li>\u2153 teaspoon of turmeric<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In a small bowl, mix the flour, cucumber juice, coconut milk, and turmeric to form a paste. You can also add more flour if the paste is too thin. Apply the mask evenly to your face. Leave it on for about 15 minutes \u2014 but not until the paste dries. Rinse with warm water. Makes 2 applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. Turmeric Acne Mask<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Naturally antiseptic and antibacterial, turmeric and honey soothe inflamed skin and acne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Organic apple cider vinegar<\/li><li>1\/2 teaspoon ground turmeric<\/li><li>1 tablespoon of organic, raw honey (preferably&nbsp;Manuka honey)<\/li><li>Milk<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Apply apple cider vinegar to a cotton ball and swipe all over the skin. Wait about 5 minutes before you apply the mask. Mix the turmeric powder with the honey. Use your clean hands to apply the mask, avoiding the eye area. Let the mask sit for 15\u201320 minutes, then rinse with warm water. If the turmeric powder leaves a yellowish tint on the skin, use a milk-soaked cotton ball to go over stained areas.
